Some of the most visible signs of aging first appear on the face. You may feel that the face you see in the mirror doesn't reflect the way you feel about yourself. If you would like to look as good as you feel a facelift can make your face appear firmer, fresher and younger.

You may be a good candidate for a facelift if you have the following conditions:

  • A deep nasolabial line
  • Loss of a well defined jawline
  • Deep wrinkles on the cheek and sagging skin near the cheekbones
  • Loose skin, wrinkles or excess fat in the neck

Facelift needs to be approached with extra caution in patients with - uncontrolled blood pressure, blood-clotting problems and tendency to form excessive scars. Be sure to inform your plastic surgeon of these conditions.
You may need additional procedures to meet your cosmetic goals. Facelift may be combined with:

  • Forehead lift - to correct lines and furrows on the brow
  • Eyelid surgery - to eliminate drooping eyelids or baggy eyelids
  • Nose reshaping
  • Skin treatments - laser resurfacing or chemical peels to minimize fine lines

Some patients may be recommended other procedures (instead of facelift) - non-operative facial rejuvenation, peel program, Botox injections, Fillers, Contour thread lift etc.

Facelift is performed in an operation theatre under suitable anaesthesia.
The incision is typically hidden in the natural contour of your ear, and then extends around the earlobe and back into the hairline. Working through these incisions, the facial skin is freed from its underlying tissues and pulled upwards and backwards. The excess skin is then removed. In some cases, the deeper tissues may also be repositioned or tightened to restore a more youthful contour to your face. If necessary, an incision is taken under the chin to remove fatty tissue in that area and tighten the underlying muscles.
A compressive dressing may be placed over the face. Any discomfort will be controlled by medications. Sometimes, small drainage tubes are placed beneath the skin to drain away fluids that may otherwise accumulate.

The day after surgery, you will need to move around a bit to promote blood circulation.
You will be advised to rest with your head elevated to minimize swelling. Although everyone heals at different rate, your recovery may be as follows:

By the first week the stiches will be remove and you will be permitted to wear makeup and do like activities. After two weeks you may resume all routine activities (except exercises ) and most of the swelling would have disappeared. You may resume exercises after 4 to 6 weeks.

You should avoid exposure to direct sunlight post operatively.

A number of factors, including heredity and your lifestyle, play a role in how long the results will last.

You may have a detailed discussion about this during your personal consultation. Some of the possible complications include - anaesthesia related complications, swelling & bruising, Bleeding, Infection, delayed skin healing, altered sensations, facial asymmetry (nerve damage) etc.

Brow lift is a procedure designed to elevate the eyebrows to a more desirable and youthful position. The various methods to achieve brow lift are:
1. Non-invasive - Botox injections
2. Minimally Invasive - Thread lift, Endotine lift or Endoscopic brow lift.
3. Operative brow lift.
The technique chosen will depend on patient factors, your cosmetic goals as well as your surgeon's recommendation.

Thread lift is a relatively new procedure that can be done as a day care procedure. Some patients with busy lifestyles and those who want a subtle difference prefer this procedure.

Patients with severe sagging of skin and a "heavy" face may not see a major improvement with this procedure. However, those who desire a subtle change in the upper, lower or mid face region are more likely to be satisfied with the procedure.

Through a small incision (within the hairline at the temple area) a barbed suture is inserted to grasp and then lift the skin and underlying tissue.

You will be advised to rest with your head elevated and to apply cold compresses to minimize swelling. You must rest your face for a few days after the procedure. You should not rub your face or chew excessively.
Stitches will be removed after 7 to 10 days.
